Many adults come to Peninsula READS with very little to no basic computer skills, such as using a mouse, navigating the internet, or sending an email. With the understanding of this technology becoming more critical to everyday living, volunteer Computer Lab Assistants introduce adult learners to these skills and help them learn to use widely used software programs. They do not have to be computer experts! They are available to answer basic questions about using computer software, helping learners feel more confident and motivated. Computer Lab Assistants can also support the work being done in tutoring sessions by being assigned to work one-on-one with a learner on various literacy websites. Volunteers are needed at both our Hampton and Newport News locations for various shifts throughout the day.
